What do the Brown Bear, the Lesser Horseshoe Bat and the Balkan Lynx have in common? They are just a few of the many species that have been catalogued by the Ministry of Environment. The catalogue documents each of the 17,604 species living in FYR Macedonia. The painstaking work of cataloguing 1,053 fungi, 354 lichens, 2,169 algae, 3,674 plants and 10,354 species of fauna, was carried out by a team of experts as part of a new National Assessment and Evaluation of Biodiversity report – recently launched by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.

Developing Municipal Capacities for Gender Equality

In FYR Macedonia capacities are being developed to ensure that local policy decisions are linked with real life issues such as health care, domestic violence, assistance to single mothers, access to employment, education and justice. With financial support from the Government of Norway, a project implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, that supports municipal Equal Opportunity Commissions and Coordinators is helping to make sure that gender equality is mainstreamed into all functions and working sectors of municipalities.
